Haven cling on to beat South Wales

Whitehaven survived a desperate late rally to pick up a narrow 22-18 Co-operative Championship 1 win at South Wales.

The Cumbrians looked home and dry when David Ford`s 69th-minute try put them 22-6 up with 11 minutes to go but the home side scored twice in the final three minutes through a brace from Joe Burke, with Lewis Reece kicking both conversions to bring them to within a score.

Whitehaven`s other scores came from Carl Rudd, Craig Calvert and Carl Slice, with Lewis Palfrey kicking three goals, while the home side`s only first-half points came from a converted try from Neil Dallimore.
