Whitehaven RL are delighted to announce the signing of forward Matty While on a two year deal from Barrow Raiders. While returns to the club after having a short loan spell early in the 2018 season. He made two appearances against Workington in the Ike Southward memorial fixture and London Skolars in the Challenge Cup.

He returned to Barrow and made 11 appearances scoring 1 try as they retained Betfred Championship status for 2019.

Speaking about signing a deal until the end of 2020 While said "I’m proud and excited to have signed for Whitehaven. I’m looking forward to the year ahead as well as the opportunity to work with Charlo, Jonty and Macca and can’t wait to get started with the lads.”

Head coach Gary Charlton is happy to bolster his forward options by the signing of While saying "Matty is a up and coming prop forward that has plenty off aggression in his game,he probably didn’t get the game time he wanted at barrow last season to show what he can do so hopefully it will be to our gain. He comes from a Suoer League background with being at the Leeds Rhinos for a few years. The balls in Matty’s court now so hopefully he can come and cement a place in our line up he definitely has the ability to do well for us.”While is the 19th confirmed member of Gary Charlton's 2019 squad as pre-season gets underway next week.
