Ben Leads The Haven Out

Community Team make a Big Hit at Christmas Party…..

Our Community team of Callum Aitken, Louis Jouffret, Dion Aiye,Glenn Riley , Kurtis Quinn do a great job working in the Local Community with Schools , Junior teams and Numerous good causes, Today we  bring you  a story about one young man Ben Buxton  who discovered Whitehaven RLFC when the Community Team  visited  the Christmas party in the Children’s Ward , West Cumberland Hospital in December .

Ben suffers from a genetic condition called Cystic Fibrosis (CF). He was born 12 weeks premature at WCH At 5 days old his family  got the news that Ben had CF and he spent 10 weeks in hospital - WCH to Middlesbrough to RVI Newcastle then home.

Now aged Ben is a very happy boy, takes everything in his stride ,but he can become very poorly very quickly Has just recently  been discharged from WCH with a bad chest infection and is receiving his treatment at home which includes a Daily routine of physiotherapy on his chest, nebulisers and 30+ tablets.

Ben is Sports mad- literally any sport interests him!

During  their visit  Ben’s natural curiosity drew him to our Guys who were there along side the Club Mascot Pride ,and Ben "assumed" the chaps were just dressed up as rugby players and when he was told  they were real rugby players his eyes lit up and he said "what, they are real life rugby players"?!! Bless him!! He's not stopped talking about them since!!! And very quickly todays visit was organised through Haven Fan Kelly Agnew who works on the Ward .

Kurtis Quinn who was also at the Childrens ward that day said “ Ben really took an interest in us and the club from the start , he asked lots of questions  and him and his Dad said they would really like to come to a game.So its great to know they will be hear today to cheer his heroes on. I am sure they will have a day to remember “
